Maximizing residual capacity in connection-oriented networks
نویسنده
چکیده
The following problem arises in the study of survivable connection-oriented networks. Given a demandmatrix to be routed between nodes, we want to route all demands, so that the residual capacity given by the difference between link capacity and link flow is maximized. Each demand can use only one path. Therefore, the flow is modeled as nonbifurcated multicommodity flow. We call the considered problem nonbifurcated congestion (NBC) problem. Solving NBC problem enables robust restoration of failed connections in a case of network failure. We propose a new heuristic algorithm for NBC problem and compare its performance with existing algorithms.

Engineering and Routing of Connection-oriented Multirate Reference Networks
This contribution proceeds to connection-oriented networks by combining full fairness multi-services bufferless switching and nonhierarchical routing (NHR). The near explicit solution of the recently elaborated first order recurrence equation for multirate loss systems is justified to provide a decomposition of the huge state space into two near independent areas which are subject to full fairn...
متن کاملOn-line disjoint path routing for network capacity maximization in energy-constrained ad hoc networks
In this paper we consider on-line disjoint path routing in energy-constrained ad hoc networks. The objective is to maximize the network capacity, i.e. maximize the number of messages routed successfully by the network without any knowledge of future disjoint path connection request arrivals and generation rates. Specifically, in this paper we first present two centralized on-line algorithms for...
متن کاملRouting Issues in Interconnecting Ip Networks with the Petaweb
The PetaWeb, proposed for Next Generation Internet (NGI) infrastructures, is an innovative, geographically distributed, high-capacity switch architecture based on recent advances in optical and electronic switching technologies. The PetaWeb supports adaptive capacity allocation between edge modules for connectionless and connection-oriented traffic. This is achieved by the use of a rate-regulat...
متن کاملEecient Interconnection Designs for Switch-based Local Area Networks 1
Today, with the proliferation of switch-based local area network standards, such as ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), HIPPI (HIgh Performance Parallel Interface) and Fibre Channel, the issue of the eecient interconnection among connection-oriented switches arises. This paper presents a study of eecient arrangements of switches intended to support a local area network environment. This multi-swi...
متن کاملScalability Enhancements for Connection-oriented Networks 1 Connection Limits for Network Nodes
We consider the issue of increasing the number of connections that connection oriented networks, such as ATM, can handle. We describe one step that arises at reducing connection awareness inside the network. To that end, connections between the same pair of access nodes are grouped together and made indistinguishable inside the network. The concept of dynamic virtual path trunks is introduced a...
